The Jordanian Vehicle Manufacturing Company (JVMC) was set up in 1999 as a joint venture between SBIG and Land Rover.
The plant will produce the leading Land Rover models: Defender, Discovery and Freelander, built on the three production lines.
The goal - to establish a CKD plant - is thought to be the first of its kind in Jordan and the first in the region in terms of size and sophisticated production techniques. The company intends to widen its range of vehicle production to include other makes.
The Land Rover project will be on a 700,000square metre site, with total covered space of around 4,000square metres.
The main buildings will be production and paint shops, making up about 75% of the total area. Other buildings will include administration and the sports centre. Complementary industries related to vehicle components production will be established in order to contribute to the economies of the project.
The site will be able to produce up to 10,000 vehicles per year depending on the type and model of the vehicles produced.
