SMS is a prime example of the way in which SBIG works to take the initiative and draw on the global expertise of its partners when the opportunity arises.

In response to a major business opportunity in Iraq to build a mobile communications network, SBIG assembled the SMS (Swedtel, Marconi, SBIG) Consortium.

Each of the Partners contributed to the success of the team with SBIG providing the financial strength combined with Middle East presence and experience, Swedtel providing world-class telecommunications operating skills, and Marconi Wireless delivering world class network planning and operations tools, professional services and technological competence.

The SMS Consortium was able to demonstrate world class knowledge, experience and success in telecommunications, show intimate knowledge and extensive direct involvement with the local Iraqi market, demonstrate extensive technological experience and prowess in all mobile technologies and air interfaces, and have access to sufficient financial resources to ensure that the Iraqi Mobile Operator is suitably funded.

Though the SMS Consortium was ultimately unsuccessful in its bid for the Iraq project, it firmly believes it has the power, ability and expertise to succeed in similar bids, and is currently looking for mobile communications opportunities.
